Found the Aldi…added to the collection of the homecomputermuseum.

One was offered last week on Marktplaats, in combination with a VIC-20 and, as it seems, a quit rare Commodore VC-1020. I offered 125 alone for the Aldi, if working and in good condition. If i had to buy the VC-20 as well, i would put it on auction immediatly. Don’t want any collection pollution 😉 Just not my kind of thing. Guess the 125 is a high end bid…could get it cheaper..with more patience 🙂

The bidding went to 200 euro for the lot, and on the background to 300. Seller checked the value of the VC-1020, and that one alone was sold in the past for 300 euro as he states (ebay).  Would love to had that Aldi…the only one missing currently, except for the real early silver.

Stil not quit sure if i should bid over the 300. A lot of money, currently on a Belgium auction website a VC-20 is now offered for 75. With the disk drive, the extension bay for the VIC and the Aldi it is probably worth the money?

Visit a collector yesterday

The collection actually blew me away, collector was a very nice guy. He is getting older, and he has started  to sell his collection. Except for Atari, MSX etc, he has been collecting Commodore as well. Showed me some of the stuff he is going to sell, 1581, SFD-1001, 1570’s, vic1541, vc1541 etc. He had some 10-20 boxed commodores still in the attic. He was looking for someone to sell this in one deal. Currently discussing that. But…to the more amazing stuff….

  • Fischertechnik interface new in box (and by new, I mean never ever used…mint condition)
  • 1764 REU memory expansion
  • SX64 disks and the accessory bag (SX sold already)
  • Stack Light Rifle (oh yes)
  • Thundercolt lightgun
  • Books, new, a lot
  • Software boxed (office software), a lot, boxed and new
  • Currah speech (used)
  • Joysticks, new in box
  • Overlay keyboard, printers boxed, new etc etc etc

And when i say new…it is practically brand new. Left there speechless….So much stuff came by…where to start???

But the most amazing thing was a cardboard box..with a cartridge still in foil and a brand new joystick. The 64GS…i asked where the rest of the GS system was?? He didn’t know if he sold it, or whether it was still somewhere in the attic. Just told him what the actual value probably would be, and that he could call me anytime to discuss further.

Just bought some minor things, Prologic Dos (new), Gima floppy-flash (new), Freeze Frame cartridge with manual and the Rex 9645 Profi Dos cartridge. Two eprom cards Dela 4.1 (new, but remakes). Paid 70 euro.

Seems that stuff from the old days from Rex datentechnik was brought back to market!

Joysticks

Got myself some rubber bands to tie up the cables, and some spare time to sort out the growing amount of joysticks, mouse and paddles in my collection. Just kept everything i got from auctions. Nothing special I guess, and some Atari stuff as well (GameMate 2). Personally i still use the joystick I had back then, the Suzo Arcade.

Commodore floppy disks

In the last five months I kept all the boxes with the floppy disks…had in mind to check them and transfer them to D64 images. But the pile is growing, and I still haven’t ordered a Ultima II from Gideon.

Commodore, not the 64G or the Aldi

Kinda annoyed. Opened the C64. Led replaced with a new one, lots of glue, PLA replaced with an eprom or alternative one, everything heatsinked in a bad way.

But definitely not an Aldi, did some reading over what to expect in a C64 Aldi. The stupid thing is, if it is an Aldi, they were made in the US for the German market, therefor at least the serial label on the bottom should mention that. I should have informed myself better before bidding!

Guess, although working, it’s value is absolutely not the 75 I paid for it. And damn sure the seller knew that as well, although  i was discussing with him if it was an Aldi. Guess I was just too eager, and didn’t inform myself before going there. Problem is, if it was an Aldi, you just need to be quick, make a deal before others noticing the auction…and then you are kind a stuck to it.

Will keep my eye on that seller. He sold most of his ‘personal’ collection, not quit sure what he meant by that..if this was one of the better Commodore he had..We’ll see what comes up next under his account. He even put a ‘new’ seal on one of the screws on the bottom (update: very active on Marktplaats with weekly offering (repaired) Commodore related stuff)

A bit of a disappointment I think….it’s ether a normal breadbox, with upper half taken from an Aldi or a G. Slight mismatch in yellowing between upper half and lower half. Will check the board tomorrow, underneath is says C64. The guy has sold much of his collection the last months he told me, including an SX. In the middle of the battle of ending his relationship he decided he would sell the lot…at least his ex cannot take half of it and throw it away. Weird story. Ah well.

On the way back home, went to Groesbeek. Pick of two joysticks, Quickshot VII and a Quickshot Turbo II for 15 euro. Elder guy, made a flee market of his garage, selling all kinds of stuff. Had his own business in video productions and planned to go on retirement. Nice guy.

And upon arriving home the package arrived form Lenz…a outstanding 64G. A warm welcome to my collection.

In both auctions, this one, and the one from Lenz, somebody was just too late, and offered 100-120 euro for these Commodores…desperate trying to break the agreement I had. Both sellers kept their word.

Pick up tomorrow, a very nice one, from a collector in Wijchen, bought for 75 euro. Heatsinks installed. I probably will keep the best looking of the two I just got. Or keep the boxed one in store, and just use the other one for daily use, next to the 64c. I do have two 1702 monitors, will look good in my study 🙂

C64 repair (250407) – strange artifacts/characters but disappearing

Last week I got myself a C64 breadbin and a 1702 monitor. Tested both at the seller’s location. First time we powered the C64 on there were some weird colored characters and artifacts in a vertical line on the left side of the screen. They disappeared after a few seconds. Directly after turning it on again, the C64 was working perfectly. I tested if further at home, and again after first time turning it on, the artifacts appeared…and after 10 seconds they disappeared again. Weird. Tested the power supply, switched the monitor with another one, and connected a good C64 to the new monitor. Nada, seems the C64 was sick! Opened the casing to find out it was repaired before, at least the 12v regulator was replaced in the past with a new one.

Tested the power switch, reseated the VIC-II, with no luck. Expected that the issue might be capacitor related, since the issue just faded away after a short time. Loaded a game, played a game and everything ok. In the end replaced the VIC-II chip for a known good one…and the issue was solved.

Another 6569r3 chip for the dustbin, and another C64 ready for auction on Marktplaats.

Commodore 64G

Sold this one again to a collector for 75 euro, since I got my hands on a brand new one and have another one in the Commodore 64 Video Supergame Box.

I was looking quit some time for the 64G. Last week one was sold for 50 euro’s on Markplaats, didn’t join the auction because the case was damaged (build in reset button). Yesterdag another one was offered on Marktplaats, repaired but in good state (SID and fuse are replaced, capacitors checked and there were some keyboard issues).

Asked the seller what price he was looking for, 75 euro and we made the deal.  I think not overpriced, not too cheap I guess, but….seems that a lot of people are apparently looking for this type of Commodore. In the end the seller got an offer of 120 euro, but he kept to our deal. Respect for that! (not quit sure if a 64G is worth the 125 euro, but if a collector wants one….). The C64G is on it’s way with the post! And happy to extend my small collection with this one!

Seller is active for quit some time on the Marktplaats as well on the “2dehands” market. Nice guy! He does repairs of Commodore hardware for a hobby, repairing and selling them again on the auction sites.

Breadbin and 1702 monitor

This one came on Marktplaats this evening. Bjorn is selling his set which has been for years on the attic. He is living in Thorn, border Holland and Belgium, and nearby Maarheeze. That’s just a 20 minute drive, and  since i had to pick up the C128 and boxed final cartridge there, i just asked Bjorn what figure he was thinking of: 90 Euros. Done deal,  and pick it up tomorrow!. Will keep that KCS cartridge and manual for sure, and the 1702 monitor. Then I will probably sell my other 1702 monitor, since it is missing the latch. Hopefully everything is in working order…you never know.

I was only wondering why this set is without games, will ask the owner tomorrow.

For work I need to be in Hilversum tomorrow and it will be a stormy day, code red, hopefully traffic won’t be such a bitch that i cannot make it in Maarheeze in time. Will make quit some mileage again tomorrow. Hell, make effective use of your lease car.
